Skybus Cutting West Coast Flights

We just got the latest email from Skybus, and the Ryanair of America is now selling its $10 tickets for this summer. But the airline forgot to mention one little thing in the email. Skybus is killing off its service to Oakland ("San Francisco").

Like Bellingham and San Diego before it, Oakland is the victim of a small fleet and high fuel prices. An airline spokesman told the Columbus Dispatch:

Fuel prices are still very high. And the Oakland flight requires tying up an airplane for about nine hours. You could make two to four shorter trips during that time.

And that's exactly what Skybus is going to do. Come June, Burbank ("Los Angeles") will be the only West Coast city served by the cut-price carrier. But flights from Columbus to Niagara Falls and to Wilmington, Delaware start this spring, and those routes fit nicely with the short-hop strategy.
