David Shuster suspended over Chelsea

Hi David, I’ve really liked the work you’ve done (and want you get your own show) and so does most of the blogoshere, but saying Chelsea’s being “pimped out” was out of line. Why is it not OK for Chelsea to campaign for her mother? If David used the word “pimp” in any context associated with the Obama camp, I think I know how everyone would react. He’s apologizing on Tucker later today. That’s a good thing.

NBC: On Thursday’s “Tucker” on MSNBC, David Shuster, who was serving as guest-host of the program, made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate. Shuster, who apologized this morning on MSNBC and will again this evening, has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology. He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.

Makes you wonder why Matthews wasn’t suspended.

Microsoft to End the Distribution of Windows Vista Digital Product Keys

Windows Anytime Upgrade is a default feature of some of the Windows Vista editions. Because the latest Windows client ships in a variety of editions, with no less than four focused on the general consumers, Microsoft worked to streamline the process permitting users to upgrade from a lower-cost, less feature-rich versions
to a higher-end version. The move is facilitated via the presence of Windows Anytime Upgrades. But as of February 20, the Redmond company is introducing some changes into the process.

So far, end users wanting to upgrade from one edition of Vista to another, just to get a little more kick, could have easily ordered a digital product key for the higher-end edition of the operating system and use the Windows Anytime Upgrade capabilities of the Vista DVD, if the media indeed featured them. Alternatively, they had the opportunity to order a Windows Vista Anytime upgrade media with the operating system version they wanted and also receive the product key. Starting with February 20, Microsoft will disallow digital product keys for Windows Anytime Upgrade, and users will have to obtain an Upgrade kit.

"In an effort to streamline the Windows Anytime Upgrade experience for our customers and open the program to additional markets worldwide, Microsoft and its partners have decided to end digital product key distribution on February 20, 2008. We will continue to make full Windows Anytime Upgrade kits—which include a DVD and license that allows customers to upgrade their existing edition of Windows Vista to a premium edition—available directly from Microsoft (except in Japan) as well as local retailers throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. All digital keys purchased through February 20, 2008 will remain valid for upgrade," Microsoft stated.

New Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta

Introducing Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta, the next version of our popular IM software for Windows. This new version has a whole new look and feel, along with some great new features that make it well worth the upgrade. Here’s a quick look at what’s new in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta:

- A whole new look for your contact list. Keep it in detail view to see larger Avatar images for your friends, or switch to compact list view (in the Contacts menu). Plus, you can just hover and click to IM, SMS or call a friend.

- Brand new skins and emoticons! Click the dot near the top of your Messenger window to choose a skin, and check the emoticon menu for the new ones that were inspired by user entries in our Emoticontest earlier this year (more on our winners in a future post).

- New Flickr integration in the photo sharing feature. Easily share photos from your Flickr.com account, or save photos shared with you directly to Flickr.

- A new in-line media player that makes it easy to view maps, photos and videos from sites like Yahoo! Video and YouTube right in the IM window. No plug-ins needed, no extra downloads — it’s built right in. Just send a video, map or photo link to another friend who’s also on 9.0 to try it out.

- New features for voice calls. You can have your incoming Phone In or free PC calls forwarded to another number like your mobile, home or office phone, even if you’re signed out of Messenger (Phone Out account required). Plus there’s a new way to get voicemail. When someone leaves you a voicemail in Messenger, an email is sent to you with an MP3 of the voice message attached.

U.S. Open to introduce Chambers Bay

Never heard of Chambers Bay Golf Course?

You’re about to.

Chambers Bay, built on land reclaimed from an old gravel quarry beside the Puget Sound, has been awarded the 2015 U.S. Open and the 2010 U.S. Amateur, proving the national championship of American golf isn’t forever tied to the same small cluster of old-line clubs.

Two things jump out about the Chambers Bay announcement, made officially today at the USGA meeting in Houston:

The USGA likes holding the Open on municipal courses, which Chambers Bay is, and it’s willing to take its biggest event to a new course, considering Chambers Bay just opened last summer.

The Open now has three truly public courses on its list of sites, starting with Torrey Pines this year, a return to Bethpage next year and Chambers Bay in 2015. Pebble Beach and Pinehurst are also open to the public, though they’re classified as resort courses.

When the Open goes to Chambers Bay, it will be the first one played in the Pacific Northwest. It also means four of the next eight Opens are on the West Coast (including the 2012 Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco).

Cardio Free Diet

I was looking through the local bookstore last night with the kids and saw this book with an interesting if completely wrong title. What the hell does cardio have with a diet. In my mind there are two parts of a healthy lifestyle and those are diet and exercise. Of course the book intrigued me so I had to pick it up.

Well it seems my first instincy was a little unfair. It seems that the book has good intentions. As far as diet is concerned Jim Karas is more interested in portion control then fighting the whole high protein or low fat or nay other high or low type eating style. Portion control is of course for the most important part of a north american diet and once you have that in check then you can worry about everything else.

The cardio free portion of the Cardio Free Diet is the exercise that Jim Karas prescribes. Instead of doing hours of cardio he tells us that hte most important thing is to do weights. Weight training alone are not the answer but I always like the idea of people going overboard in one direction because it helps to emphasize something that is probably missing or not given enough attention. Every pound of muscle that you gain from doing weights will force your body to burn more calories everyday and of course doing weights will increase your metabolism but we all know that cardio really is important too.

A lot of people are looking for an easy way out whether it is avoiding cardio or avoiding weights or avoiding good eating but the Cardio Free Diet is all about getting rid of cardio and getting all of your exercise from doing wieghts, I have a hard time agreeing with that. This being said the book is quite good and I am sure that you will be able to pick up some great tips from this book. I like reading and re-reading any diet and exercise books because good books always give you an angle that you never thought of or tips that really help you everyday.

This may not be the best book out there but I still think it is a good one to look at and read. If you get a chance to see it in the bookstore flip through it and if you like it click this link and buy the book as I always find that Amazon saves me money when I am buying books.

3 shot dead on Louisiana Tech campus

A female student shot two other women and herself Friday morning inside a classroom on the campus of Louisiana Technical College in Baton Rouge, authorities said.

Baton Rough police Sgt. Don Kelly said officers responding to a 911 call found all three victims already dead in a second-floor classroom.

About 20 people were in the classroom at the time of the shooting, Kelly said. He would not give the specific room number or say what kind of class it was.

No shots were fired anywhere else, Kelly said.

Louisiana Technical College - Woman Shoots 2 Female Students, Self

Baton Rouge police say a young woman killed two female students in a classroom at a vo-tech college, then killed herself.

Sgt. Don Kelly says police don’t know the women’s names or ages, or whether the killer was also a student at Louisiana Technical College.

He says the first two women killed apparently were in their seats in the second-floor classroom.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. today. Kelly says Baton Rouge police got many cellphone calls saying people had been shot.

Heidi Fleiss Arrested!!!

Hollywood's former Madame to the Stars was busted in Nevada on Thursday afternoon.

Yes, it's a DUI, but so much more too!

Nye County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Heidi Fleiss after they got a call about a possible drunk driver. The cops found the car, driven by Fleiss, and pulled it over.

During the traffic stop, officers say they found prescription narcotics inside the car. Fleiss was unable to produce evidence that the medication had been prescribed to her. Very illegal.

So the coppers took her to jail (again)!

Fleiss was charged with driving without a license, possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription, under the influence of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

P.S. If she was driving drunk in the middle of the day AND had a bunch of pills on her, girlfriend's got some serious problems.

Watch "My Buddy Bill"

Last year while I was visiting Chicago, Mo Ryan told me she had tickets to see watch Rick Cleveland, a scribe for “Six Feet Under” and “The West Wing” (he shared the show's only writing Emmy with this guy), workshopping a monologue called “My Buddy Bill.” I had no idea what to expect, but the performance was a complete hoot.

The story starts out in the White House in the final months of the Bill Clinton administration -- he's the Bill in the title -- passes through Malibu and rural Arkansas (where Billy Bob Thornton somehow gets involved) and ends up with Cleveland trying to score illicit drugs in an Amsterdam coffee shop while hanging with Clinton and Christopher Walken. Much of the charm derives from Cleveland walking you right through the membrane that separates plausibility from absurdity, and you hardly notice a thing. He taped a polished performance in New York a few months later; it airs at 11 p.m. CT on Thursday on Comedy Central.

Who broke the sound barrier

In aerodynamics, the sound barrier usually refers to flight at transonic speeds, between subsonic and supersonic speeds. The term came into use during World War II when a number of aircraft started to encounter the effects of compressibility, a grab-bag of unrelated aerodynamic effects. The term fell out of use in the 1950s when aircraft started to routinely “break” the sound barrier. Refer to the speed of sound for the science behind the velocity referred to as the sound barrier.

The first flight at faster than the speed of sound occurred on 14 October 1947. The aircraft was the Bell X-1 and the pilot was Captain Charles Yeager.

It was in the X-1 that Chuck Yeager was the first person to break the sound barrier in level flight on October 14, 1947, flying at an altitude of 45,000 ft (13.7 km).

The sound barrier was first broken in a vehicle in a sustained way on land in 1948 by a rocket-powered test vehicle at Muroc Air Force Base (now Edwards AFB) in California, United States. It was powered by 6000 pounds (27 kN) of thrust, reaching 1,019 mph (1,640 km/h).[5]

Jackie Cochran was the first woman to break the sound barrier on May 18, 1953, in a Canadair Sabre, with Yeager as her wingman.

Izabel Goulart With Salita Ebanks and Karolina Kurkova

Izabel Goulart was born on October 23, 1984 in São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil. She is of Italian-Brazilian descent. She has four brothers and one sister. Goulart once said that “the hardest part about being an Angel is I spend time away from my mom’s food and away from my home with my five brothers and sister.”

Goulart has stated that school was a particularly rough time, as she was made fun of for her skinny build, and was even called names such as “giraffe”.

While shopping for groceries with her mother at age 14, a hairstylist suggested that she should become a model. She moved to the state’s capital São Paulo and started modeling.

Chuck Yeager

The man who broke the speed of sound is all over the news these days. Yes, Chuck Yeager is an aviation legend whose name and accomplishment continue to sound out to the ends of the globe. It was Chuck Yeager who in 1947 as a test pilot broke the speed of sound. He also was a war hero. His list of medals and commendations include:

Air Force Distinguished Service Medal
Silver Star
Legion of Merit
Distinguished Flying Cross
Purple Heart
Air medal
Presidential Medal of Freedom
World War II Victory Medal

The above citations are only a partial list, this guy is a living legend and a true American hero.

Chuck Yeager suprisingly never attended college yet no one doubts his intellect and wisdom. Chuck is considered by many to be the greatest pilot of all time.

We will update this blog regularly with anything and everything related to Chuck Yeager.

Rick Cleveland Solo

Comedy Central will air the Rick Cleveland solo, My Buddy Bill, which concerns his relationship with former President Bill Clinton and Clinton's canine companion Buddy.

Recorded from performances (June 15, 2007) at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the one-man comedy will debut in a one-hour special on the cable network (late Thursday night) Feb. 8 at midnight.

In My Buddy Bill, "Six Feet Under" and "The West Wing" writer Cleveland "spills the dirt on his relationship with former President Bill Clinton... from touring the White House to playing catch with the First Dog Buddy and flying in George Harrison's jet to Amsterdam... discovering that he and the former President have much in common," according to production notes.

The work debuted at the Geffen Playhouse in 2005 and was later featured at the 12th annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in 2006. Peter Birkenhead directed the solo play. Cleveland is currently working on the followup, My Pal George, based on current President George W. Bush which will be workshopped at the upcoming Berkshire Theatre Festival.

Cleveland served as executive producer and writer for all five seasons of the HBO drama "Six Feet Under" and garnered an Emmy and a Writer's Guild Award in 2000 for his writing on NBC's "The West Wing." His work on the latter television series inspired My Buddy Bill. Other credits include his play Jerry and Tom (later adapted for the 1998 film) and his screen adaptation of John Grisham's "Runaway Jury." He is also a commentator for NPR's "All Things Considered" and is working on a new monologue play, The Nauseated Traveler.
