Airline ticket tracker Yapta given tech industry award

Yapta Inc., an online travel shopping service, was named the 2008 Consumer Product or Service of the Year by the Washington Technology Industry Association.

Yapta, which tracks airline ticket pricing for leisure and business travelers, was co-founded by Brett Allsop of Bellingham in 2006.

Travelers can track airfare prices from most major airline Web sites and be alerted when the price of a specific flight drops.

The company Web site (yapta.com) was launched in May 2007 and has helped travelers bookmark more than $200 million worth of flight itineraries and alerted them to approximately $23 million in potential airfare savings, according to a company press release.

The company, based in Seattle, operates a customer service department out of Bellingham.

The Washington Technology Industry Association was founded in 1984 and has more than 1,000 member companies representing more than 100,000 employees.

More information about the association can be found at www.washingtontechnology.org.
